Android to have the iPhone-like AppStore?
Saturday, May 31, 2008

iPhone-like Android store isn't confirmed at this stage, but the following words by project lead Andy Rubin promise AppStore like experience to the future Google's mobile OS powered handset users:
"It would be a great benefit to the Android community to provide a place where people can go to safely and securely download content and where a billing system would allow developers to get paid for their effort…We wouldn't have done our job if we didn't provide something that helps developers get distribution."
There is a twist, though. As an open platform, Android, will allow handset makers and carriers to tweak the device the way they want to. That being, users may or may not get the AppStore pre-installed on their devices, depending on the carrier's/handset maker's decision. We're certainly all for AppStore, but it's not like someone's going to ask us about it.

GPS confirmed in the next iPhone?
Most modern smartphones sport a GPS. iPhone is an exception, but that's about to change. Or at least we hope that will be the case…
According to GigaOm's sources, the new iPhone sports a GPS and "the contract has been nailed down by Broadcom, a relatively new entrant into the GPS market," which had acquired Global Locate in July of last year.
Of course this is everything but an official information, hence we're posting it under our rumors section. Again, I want to believe there's some merit to these words and that those containers have what it takes. WWDC couldn't come fast enough…

Focal iBoom HiFi iPod Dock

Focal from Japan announced its new iBoom HiFi iPod Dock that functions with a wide range of iPods, ranging from the obsolete mini to the touch. Japan is a pretty huge consumer of the iPod after all, so it makes sense for this to be released there in the first place. Other than playing back your favorite tunes, this iBoom iPod dock also doubles up as a charger when your iPod is docked within. Features include a couple of speakers, a single 3" woofer and one tweeter. The Apple remote works just fine with this 2kg unit, and it won't take up too much space in your tiny Tokyo apartment, measuring 300mm × 190mm × 240mm. Expect to fork out a pretty pricey $300 for this.

Orange to offer upgrade deal on next-generation iPhone - discounted 3G iPhone on the way?
In yet another rumor pointing towards some sort of subsidization or discount pricing schedule for Apple's next-generation iPhone, Orange is said to be offering upgrade deals and discounts for current iPhone customers.
According to French-language PCInpact, France-based Orange has contacted customers regarding a possible upgrade deal for the iPhone. In on possible deal, Orange would allow current iPhone customers to trade-in their iPhones for a new, 3G iPhone. The swap would subsidize the purchase of the next-gen iPhone with just a ?50 difference left for the customer to pay.
Another possibility would have Orange giving current iPhone users a "generous discount" when buying the 3G iPhone.
If true, we could see the next-generation iPhone offered through at least one carrier at subsidized price-points - perhaps departing from the revenue-sharing model required by Apple for the current iPhone.
Why oh why can't June 9 come any faster?

Griffin Technology reveals iPhone 3G size, shape and position of sensors
Thursday, May 29, 2008
iDEALS CHINA INSIDER has taken photos which should once and for all verify the iPhone 3G size and the position of the new camera and sensors.
The photos below are of GRIFFIN TECHNOLOGY?S new Flex GRIP iPhone 3G silicone case mold and the iPhone 3G specs to fill that case. (For those who are unfamiliar, GRIFFIN is considered to be the most creditable company in the iPod accessory business). These pictures will verify the iPhone 3G size and sensors and the position of the new camera. GRIFFIN?S body fitting Flex Grip case can only be made once they have the exact shape and size of the iPhone 3G. The molds are finished and they have been manufacturing cases.
Griffin Technology iPhone 3G Mold Photos

(Notice the large size of the opening at the front top of the case. This is where the sensors and new camera are located)
iPhone 3G, 3D images used to make silicone molds
(images are in proportion but not 1 to 1)
How long does it take to develope a silicone case?
Time require to produce a silicone case:
1 day to buy the new phone 3G
2 days to computer scan the iPhone
1 day to make the model of the mold
8 to 10 days to make the mold
500 to 1000 cases can be produced per day per mold
3 to 5 days to express air the products to the maker
ALL TOTALED, it would take approximately 14 to 19 days from the time the company is in possession of a iPhone 3G or its specs. A plastic case takes 25 days to bring to market if everything goes smooth. Of course this time line does not calculate the time this company spent design a case that is going to win your hearts.
SPEAK to manufacturers, case designers, iPhone and iPhod accessory agents, distributors, resellers and consummers. You might learn some more information about the new iPhone 3G. Who knows Griffin Technology might be there to fill in some of the blanks.

iControlpad for the iPod
So your iPod makes for the perfect portable media player, but one area where it sadly falls short is in the gaming department. The iControlpad could change that (albeit slightly) by functioning as an accessory add-on that will turn your iPod into a portable gaming device, complete with a dedicated D-pad as well as a quartet of rubber gaming buttons to combat sweaty fingers during tense gaming moments. It also works just fine with the iPhone, and interface is made possible only when connected via the dock port. It will take a fair bit of effort before Apple store games will function with the iControlpad, but the whole range of ZodTTD emulator projects have been tested to be fully compatible with the iControlpad already. Guess you'll be seeing a whole lot more of Mario action from now on.

3G iPhone casing images show new design
Wednesday, May 28, 2008
As we close in on the June 9 Apple WWDC event in San Francisco, more and more iamges of the next-generation iPhone are coming to light. So much so that we already know, with a fair degree of certainty, just what kind of aesthetic changes to expect in the 3G iPhone.
There are already confirmed changes to the iPhone's exterior that include more tapered edges, revised docking port connector/speaker area, narrower chrome bezel, and a glossy plastic backing that replaces the Mg-Al cover on the current iPhone.
The latest pictures of the next-generation iPhone casing fall in line with mock-ups gleaned from 3G iPhone case molds.

With the month of May almost done and over with, it's only a matter of a couple weeks before we get to see the 3G iPhone go live.

Apple acquires third-party handwriting recognition software for iPhone OS 2.0 firmware
Remember that cool handwriting recognition software that I mentioned some time ago? Well, it seems that the HWPen application that was developed by Hanwang.com.cn has been acquired by Apple for use in the next major firmware release for the iPhone - the iPhone OS 2.0 firmware.
Hanwang claims that Apple has acquired their handwriting recognition software. It seems that Apple has chosen to acquire the recognition code rather than develop the software in-house - as previous iPhone OS 2.0 screenshots led us to believe.
Unfortunately, it seems that Apple may have crippled the handwriting recognition software to only work with Chinese character input - effectively keeping English text input restricted to the on-screen keyboard. We'll have to wait for iPhone OS 2.0 to go live before we can confirm whether or not Apple has integrated HWPen into the iPhone, or if they decided to go with their own code to recognize handwritten text.
You can still grab HWPen for free for your jailbroken iPhone (this is how). If Apple really did take HWPen under its wing, expect free versions of the application to disappear right quick.

Orbitsound T6 iPod Docking System

Now this is one iPod docking system that definitely takes the retro tube route - the Orbitsound T6. Supposedly offering a fuller, warmer sound compared to regular speakers via a 'single point stereo' sound system, this set features triode valve amplifiers in order to create a balanced sound field throughout the room. The Wikis have it that tubes used for amplifying the power of sound signals is much purer than DSP processing found in many of the current speaker systems, although the latter is what keeps the industry going these days. All in all, the Orbitsound T6 can be placed anywhere in the room without suffering from a drop in audio quality thanks to the technology used within. Available this June at a yet undisclosed price, the Orbitsound T6 will come with a 3.5 stereo input in the back and video output.

TeliaSonera to bring iPhone to the Nordic and Baltic markets
Tuesday, May 27, 2008

And the latest Apple's iPhone partner is… TeliaSonera. The short release says:
TeliaSonera today announced it has signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia later this year.
It will be quite interesting to see how Apple's handset sells in the lands of Nokia and Sony Ericsson. I doubt we'll see many "spoiled for 3.5G" Finns and Swedes jumping on the Apple's bandwagon. At least until the 3G version is out…
P.S. It's good to be spoiled, sometimes.

Earthscape developing iPhone Earth - Google Earth-like app for iPhone
One of the cooler applications being developed for the iPhone, using the iPhone SDK, has got to be iPhone Earth. Earthscape is developing the application to bring Google Earth-like functionality to the iPhone and, from the looks of it, iPhone Earth is sure to be a killer app when it goes live. It may not offer the most functionality from an iPhone application, but iPhone Earth definitely has the "cool" factor that will be hard to ignor.
Using the iPhone's multi-touch display, iPhone Earth allows the user to pan around and zoom in (through the pinch gesture) on different portions of a 3D globe. Neat, right?
Well, it doesn't end there. iPhone Earth leverages the accelerometers built in to the iPhone to tilt and rotate the map-view as you like. The video pretty much explains what Earthscape has in store for iPhone Earth - and I can't wait to try it out for myself.

Apple to bring more ringtones to iTunes soon?
Monday, May 26, 2008
Ringtones are a lucrative business and the evil-ol' record industry knows that. They (record labels) want to extend their partnership with Apple to additionally charge users for downloadable song snippets and ringback tones. And while somehow I can see their point (or can I?), I don't understand why would they think ringtones should cost more when purchased over a hypothetical 3G iTunes Store than the current Wi-Fi option. Record industry keeps losing profits and obviously change is just too hard for some people. CDs are dead people, long live the new age of downloadable music (and other digital content for that matter).
Anyway, I don't want to rant about RIAA, you can surely read bad things about these folks on many places around the Web. Let me just say that according to The New York Times we'll see Apple updating its ringtones offering by mid-June. That's WWDC time folks. We don't care about ringtones that much - give us the 3G iPhone.

One of the new breed of ultra convenient cell phones, the pre-paid HOP1800 is ideal as a backup cell phone, when traveling abroad, or for anyone looking for a super affordable cell phone that does one thing extremely well: make phone calls.
?Though the iPhone is an amazing device, I challenge anyone to make a call faster than with the HOP1800,? says Hop-On CEO Peter Michaels. ?With the cost of living and roaming fees going though the roof, the HOP1800 is also the perfect iPhone traveling companion. Just buy a local SIM card and you can use the HOP1800 with over 40 domestic wireless carriers,? Michaels said.
Both HOP1800 phones, one a Dual-band 850/1900MHz or the 900/1800MHz for Europe and Asia, weigh a scant 77 grams, offers 4 hours of talk time, 150 hours of standby time and polyphonic ring tones. Though low in cost, the HOP1800 uses reliable Infineon chip sets for excellent audio quality, reception and call stability.
At a $10 price point in the US retail and convenient stores, the HOP1800 could be considered disposable, but the company offers a $5 rebate for returning the phone to encourage recycling the phone to ?Keep it Green?.
Keeping it simple
The HOP1800 is a study in simplicity. There is no display. A tactile numeric keypad with Braille markings, offers reassuring buttons that touch screen cell phone users are longing for. Being a pre-paid cell phone, no contracts are required so you can be up and talking in seconds. Co-Branding Opportunities

Hop-on can imprint sport teams or corporate logos on the HOP1800, making it one of the most unique ? and useful ? premiums available. ?Instead of another coffee mug, offering a branded cell phone is a memorable branding opportunity that will literally keep you in touch with your customers. What would be a better way for companies, such as insurance brokers to give to their customers, handy in case of an accident!? adds Michaels.

Morodo bringing its low-cost calling service MO-Call to the iPhone
Sunday, May 25, 2008
Morodo recently announced that it is bringing its low-cost calling service, MO-Call, to the Apple iPhone users.
MO-Call is not a native third-party app like Fring, which we'll hopefully see hitting the daylight somewhere in June. It's more like Jajah and provides users with quick access to the low-cost callback service.
In order to use it, simply point Safari to mo-call.mobi and let the interface guide you through the simple process. While you're there, you can also find out how much they'll charge you, as all rates are available on the site, too.
Finally, before I let you go, you should know MO-Call is offering some free trial call credits. That's for iPhone users in the USA, Canada and Hong Kong, only. That's kinda strange, considering that out of the mentioned countries, Apple's handset is officially only available in the USA. ![]()

iControlPad brings console-like gaming experience to the iPhone
Saturday, May 24, 2008
Here's something for true iPhone and (mobile) gaming addicts. Thanks to the accessory called iControlpad, iPhone users will be able to enjoy the real console-like experience while playing games on their shiny handset. The device is still not available to the general public, but with first prototype being ready, we guess it's not that far from reaching the mass market.
According to folks behind the project, "the iPhone is locked perfectly in place when in the control pad." Best of all, this won't be an iPhone thing only - this gamepad accessory will be made for iPod Touch users as well.
Don't want to get them all the glory - check out the official iControlPad website for more information.

New 3G Apple iPhone Arrives in North America
Since mid-March, Apple Inc. and its logistics partners have imported 188 ocean containers of a product type never before declared on its shipping manifests.
With iPhones currently out of stock at many Apple stores, including its flagship outlets in New York City, rumors abound that the company is winnowing stocks in preparation for a new 3G version of the phone.
Last month Citi analysts Richard Gardner and Yeechang Lee predicted that Apple would announce the new 3G iPhone at its June 9th World Developers Conference in San Francisco. Meanwhile, Dvice.com reports that AT&T has told its employees that they cannot take vacation time from June 15 to July 12 to enable full staffing for an "exciting Summer Promotional Launch."
Now data from U.S. customs records now seem to confirm this prediction, according to ImportGenius.com. By analyzing thousands of U.S. customs records for Apple Computer, employees of the search engine for container shipment data identified a major spike in imports generated by a new product type.
?They have never before reported this product on their customs declarations,? says Ryan Petersen of ImportGenius.com. ?The fact that they are importing millions of units, combined with dwindling stocks of the first generation of iPhones, clearly supports the Citi analysts predictions.?
Two of Apple?s long-time manufacturing partners for desktop computers ?Hon Hai Precision Corp. and Quanta Computer?have been rumored to be working on the newest generation of the popular cell phone.
On March 19 Quanta delivered 20 ocean containers of merchandise, described on the Bills of Lading as ?electric computers,? to Apple, Inc. Neither Apple, Quanta, nor any other company has ever used this product description for any shipments to the U.S.
The advanced features of the iPhone make it perfectly legitimate for Apple to declare the products as computers, rather than telephones. By doing this, the company may hope to avoid the attention that a massive influx of phones may bring about, while simultaneously maintaining secrecy as to the true identify of the phone?s manufacturers.
Over the last few months shipments of ?desktop computers? and other devices did not fall off, indicating that these ?electric computers? represent a new product for the company rather than a simple renaming for their Customs declarations.
The initial shipments were followed on March 27, April 28, May 6 and May 17 with an additional 44 containers?each containing an estimated 40,000 units of the new phone. The sixteen containers imported by Apple Inc. itself?as opposed to the Quanta subsidiary?were delivered on March 19 and 27 to the Jonestown, Pa. facilities of Ingram Micro, Apple?s U.S. distribution partner.
The Quanta Computer USA shipments were delivered to that company?s distribution center in Freemont, Ca. Meanwhile, on the exact same dates as the shipments above, Schenker AG, another of Apple?s distribution partners, imported a total of 67 containers of this new product type from an undisclosed manufacturer in Shanghai, China.
Several of those products carried the Apple computer name in what appeared to be an accidental disclosure on the customs record. With arrival notification addresses in Vancouver, Canada, many of Schenker?s shipments appeared destined for the Canadian market. Apple has thus far not made the iPhone available in Canada, however Rogers Wireless recently announced that it would begin offering the item shortly. They declined to offer more specifics about when they would start selling the phones.
Apple Inc?s most recent shipment of the new products, Bill of Lading # HLCUSHA0803FTFR8, arrived at the port of New York on the Vessel NYK Delphinus on May 17th. That shipment contained 504 cartons, weighing 7140 kg, of the vaguely described ?electric computer.?
Where Quanta sent all previous shipments to Apple?including 828 ocean containers of ?desktop computers? since March?through a subsidiary, the new products were exported in Quanta?s own name. The change may reflect heightened secrecy surrounding the new products.

OZ 3G iPhone To Be Fastest In The World
Friday, May 23, 2008
Australia will have the fastest Apple 3G iPhone in the world a senior executive of Telstra has told ChannelNews. "We know what is coming we have seen the new device and it will be available on our network as soon as it is launched in the USA. By Xmas this phone will be capable of 42mbs which will make it faster than a lot of broadband offerings and the fastest iPhone on any network in the world " they said.
"We believe that this will be a major driver for many peope to invest in a new smart phone it will will also create a big buzz as many vendors plan to launch new smart phones at the same time" they added.
The 3G version of Apple's iPhone will become available very soon after its June 9 unveiling by CEO/chairman Steve Jobs at the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco say Apple insiders. ChannelNews has also been told that Telstra already have 3G phones for testing.
Jobs said recently that Apple plans to release a software kit that allows developers to make applications for the iPhone and iPod touch.
The latest move shows that Apple is lifting restrictions on the iPhone after facing public scrutiny when hackers unlocked their iPhones to work on other cell carriers. In addition, Apple locked out 3rd party application use.
Jobs said that unlocking the iPhone for 3rd party development use may give users access to hundreds of new applications which are not currently available for the mobile gadget.
Apple's decision to open up the iPhone and touch to outside developers is a step many users and industry watchers have been hoping for and demanding since the device's release. So great was the desire for third-party applications that many iPhone users and more recently iPod touch users have taken it upon themselves to crack the gadgets and install everything from banking programs to games. iPhone games could be the next hot item, as music is hot for the iPod.
Investment bank Piper Jaffray, which surveyed Apple stores earlier this month found that the iPhone is not available at half of the Apple USA retail stores, that both the 8GB and 16GB models were unavailable from the online store, and that shortages have been reported recently in the UK, suggesting the older models are beig cleared out, ahead of a new model.

AT&T to determine pricing on 3G iPhone?
While Apple had the upper hand in telling what AT&T could and could not do or charge for the current-generation iPhone, the 3G iPhone could usher in a new age of carrier-based iPhone pricing. Speculation over the next-generation iPhone's pricing scheme is rooted in an AT&T executive's loose-lipped statement. AT&T CFO Rick Lindner spoke at the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit yesterday and was caught talking about the upcoming launch that Apple still hasn't admitted is happening next month.
According to the Guardian:
Lindner said AT&T has yet to determine pricing for a hotly anticipated new version of Apple Inc's media-playing iPhone. "There's not been a product announcement. There hasn't been any pricing decision made. That's yet to come," he said.
Now the fact that Lindner is talking about a product that hasn't had "a product announcement" coupled with the implication that AT&T would be determining the pricing structure for the upcoming iPhone makes for some juicy iPhone rumors on the eve of this long-weekend. If AT&T does indeed determine the next-generation iPhone's pricing schedule, we could see a deeply discounted iPhone offered in return for a long-term commitment from subscribers - which is in line with subsidization rumors from other carriers.
Of course, iPhone subsidies would increase the iPhone's appeal to potential customers, but I have a feeling that early iPhone adopters aren't going to be too pleased at having paid full price to sign a 2-year contract with AT&T.
Stay tuned for June 9.

Apple iPhone OS 2.0 beta firmware hints at support for geo-tagged photos
Thursday, May 22, 2008
With the release of the latest iPhone OS 2.0 firmware to select iPhone enterprise developers (firmware build 5A292g) we're getting indications that Apple is bringing geo-tagging to the iPhone.
Developers are indicating that the iPhone's "Maps" and "Camera" applications ask for the user's permission before getting a location lock on the handset. The location-aware applications can presumably use the cell-tower triangulation method that is employed by the current iPhone, but the possibility of the next-generation iPhone using a true GPS receiver is enticing indeed.

More significantly, the "Camera" application is expected to feature geo-tagging support for photos. That means any picture taken with the iPhone's camera can be tagged with the location in which the photo was snapped. The location of the iPhone would be determined using the cell-tower triangulation method or GPS coordinates, and the location-data would be added to the digital picture's meta-data.
As it stands, it seems that geo-tagging support has not yet been specifically integrated into the latest iPhone OS 2.0 firmware. The Camera application asks permission to use location data, but does not embed the meta-data into pictures. We still have another month, or so, before Apple goes live with the 3G iPhone and the iPhone OS 2.0 release, so there's still time for Apple code-monkeys to integrate geo-tagging support into the new firmware.
Additionally, the new firmware shows off a new preference allowing the user to enable or disable location-aware services on a global basis. If location-awareness if your thing, you can have location-data always enabled. If tin-foil hats and conspiracy theories dominate your life, you can have location-data disabled in all situations.
Stay tuned for Apple to release more information as we close in on the Apple WWDC on June 9.

iPhone 2.0 Beta has Geo-tagging
The privately released iPhone Software 2.0 Update features a bunch of new preferences as well as what is the beginning of geo-tagging support that integrates nicely into the magical cell phone's Camera application. Build 5A292g as it is also know, will not ask the user's permission in location-aware services such as "Maps" and "Camera" before transmitting data used to identify their current geographical location. Apple has also thrown in a toggle under the general preference pane which gives the option of enabling or disabling Location Services across the entire system. We ordinary mortals will just have to wait until sometime next month when iPhone Software 2.0 is released, hopefully alongside the 3G iPhone. Are you looking forward to both?

Canadians to get cheap unlimited data rates for Apple iPhone on Rogers?
By now it's clear that Canadians will officially welcome the iPhone through the country's Rogers wireless network. The Apple iPhone is expected to hit Rogers in the near-term, but it remains to be seen just how much the iPhone will cost in Canada.
Still, there's good news for our iPhone-longing friends to the North. Electronista is reporting that Rogers may allow the iPhone to surf the web using its $7 unlimited data plan. The web-browsing plan allows all Rogers devices to surf the web with no limit for just $7 a month. If Rogers does indeed allow the iPhone's more capable Safari browser to make use of one of the world's cheapest unlimited data plans, it could prove to be a huge draw for potential iPhone customers in Canada.
Now, we wait for Apple to drop the 3G iPhone bomb on The States…

Rural wireless carriers petition FCC to look into iPhone exclusivity deal
Who knew the iPhone was so popular, especially in rural America? Actually, we knew it was popular, but it's surprising to hear that rural wireless carriers are upset that they can't offer their local subscribers any iPhone-love.
The problem is that AT&T and Apple have an iPhone exclusivity agreement that forces rural iPhone hopefuls to deal with roaming charges through AT&T. While the thought of paying roaming charges every time an iPhone connects to a network in the countryside is acceptable to some, most rural iPhone hopefuls likely cringe at the prospect of exorbitant roaming costs.
As such, the Rural Cellular Association, which represents a group of 80 small, rural wireless carriers, has filed a petition for the FCC to look into the legality of exclusivity deals like that between AT&T and Apple. The Wall Street Journal speculates that the Republican-controlled FCC will likely not make any moves on the issue before the upcoming election, but that could all change if Democrats take the White House.
Democrats have taken issue with early termination fees and exclusivity agreements between network operators and device manufacturers, which effectively limit the smaller, rural competition from offering the same products and services as the big players.
In either case, it will be interesting to see what the FCC does to open up the wireless market in the US. If the bigger players are forced to give up device exclusivity, we could see wireless rates and hardware costs from top US wireless network operators drop in the face of increased pressure from smaller carriers.

iPhone Insurance Blooper

Guess there won't be an iPhone insurance from AT after all, considering there is a fair bit of fine print for one to go through before the deal becomes legit. This plan will be open to all customers who will be picking up a device or those who made a purchase no more than 30 days ago. Other than the $5 monthly fee, you will hav to fork out another $50 for majority of AT&T handsets on offer, while expensive smartphones and PDAs will cost an additional $125. Forget about the iPhone being covered though, since these are made out of adamantium.

iChime MP3 Doorbell

Forget the typical "ding dong" of a doorbell - the iChime allows you to play up to 50 pre-loaded songs and sounds of your desire, and these can be transferred via an iPod or a computer. I would say you must possess some sort of rudimentary home improvement knowledge if you were to install the iChime all by yourself, as I am pretty skeptical of the "an easy two-wire replacement" claim that stands in your way between a standard chime and having Akon greet your guests.

BrightonNet iPhone/iPod Touch pen wants to replace your fingers

I still don't quite understand companies that try to make stylus for the iPhone. Apple's handset is not designed to be used with a pen, but with fingers. How would you multi-touch on it? With two styluses? It's ridiculous…
BrightonNet's iPhone/iPod Touch PEN isn't the first such a "device" we've seen (remember Pogo?). However, it is the fanciest, thanks to the soft tip attached to a flexible neck. Apparently, the mentioned "feature" should help you drag and swipe in a much easier manner. Yeah, sure… I'm not buying it. For one thing, I don't wanna carry around a stylus if it's not integrated in the device. It will get lost, you know it.
Anyway, we've no information where you can buy the iPhone/iPod Touch PEN nor how much it costs. To be fair, I'm not sure many of you care about it. Just for the record, the official product page is here, so if you wanna know more - you'll know whom to contact.

AT&T Ups iPhone Customer Limit

AT&T is playing a game of flip-flops with customers, going back on its decision of limiting each customer to just one iPhone within a day by increasing that limit to three handsets instead. This came about after AT&T discovered that they have enough iPhones in their inventory to resume normal sales. I wonder if this is just a publicity stunt to raise even more hype as AT&T clears out their iPhone stock in view of the imminent 3G iPhone that should be out sometime next month (whispers of it being revealed at WWDC abound). If you're thinking of getting Apple's handset, will you be holding out for the 3G version or don't mind getting the 16GB model?

AT&T back-peddles on iPhone sales limit - allows three iPhones per person
Just a day after AT&T instituted a one iPhone per person limit to presumably ration remaining iPhone stock, the top US wireless carrier back-peddled and is now allowing customers to buy up to three iPhones at a time.
"Our No. 1 concern is to make sure that every customer who wants an iPhone gets one," an AT&T spokesman said. "We thought yesterday that the fairest way to do that was to limit customers to one iPhone. Then we realized that we have sufficient inventory to go back to our original policy."
AT&T customers can now expect to buy up to three iPhones with a credit or debit card. Cash and checks are not accepted in order to enforce the iPhone sales-limit.

Apple launching 3G iPhone on June 9 - confirmed launch during WWDC keynote
We all suspected as much, and it's been almost an unofficial launch date for Apple's next-generation iPhone. But, today, Gizmodo has reportedly confirmed the launch of the 3G iPhone on June 9th during the keynote presentation at Apple's WWDC conference. Citing a source "very, very close to the 3G iPhone launch," the report says that Apple will be unveiling the successor to the heralded iPhone on the keynote stage - presumably with Steve Jobs introducing the new handset.
And, the fact that Spain will get the 3G iPhone on June 18th, to celebrate the grand opening of the Telefonica megastore in Madrid, bodes well for US availability of the 3G iPhone before June 18. That puts US 3G iPhone availability solidly in mid-June - hopefully.
Moreover, the 3G iPhone will usher in a new age of iPhone-pricing. Gone will be the days of fixed-price iPhones. Apple will be adopting the more traditional subsidized pricing schedules for the next-generation iPhone - at least in some countries. This means that certain carriers can offer discounts and subsidies on the Apple handset in return for a contract-commitment from the customer.
All that's left is the wait for Apple's WWDC to kick off on June 9th.

Refurbished iPhones may contain previous owners? information
Monday, May 19, 2008
iPhone owners looking to upgrade to the 3G iPhone, beware! When you sell your current iPhone on the secondary market (Craigslist, eBay) to help ease the pain on your wallet, you might want to make sure that all your personal data is erased from the device.
The problem with re-selling your iPhone to a private party is that all your personal information - email, images, contacts, etc. - remain on the device after an iTunes-based "Restore." As a mini-computer in your pocket, the iPhone stores all your personal information in its on-board memory. Unfortunately, that means that a full-format is required to remove all data. The "Restore" option through iTunes doesn't completely erase that sensitive personal data from the iPhone - the data remains intact on an unallocated portion of the iPhone's NAND memory, although not readily visible.
Turns out, even Apple's refurbishing procedure doesn't erase all personal data from the iPhone.
The latest report comes from a Oregon State Police Detective. Using an iPhone forensics toolkit developed by iPhone developer extraordinaire Jonathan Zdziarski, the detective was able to retrieve some seriously sensitive personal data from a recently purchased refurbished iPhone. The screenshot you see here is from a refurbished iPhone from which the personal data (email inbox) was recovered.
So, what can we iPhone owners do to make sure that all our info is deleted before hocking it for the 3G iPhone? Well, there isn't any memory formatting method available yet. But, Jonathan Zdziarski is aware of a low-level solution to wipe the NAND memory in the iPhone, so we could see an iPhone memory formatting utility launch in the near future.
Until a full-format utility becomes available for the iPhone, it would be prudent to manually delete all personal information (email accounts, images, contacts, etc.) from the iPhone before hitting the "Restore" button in iTunes. Oh, and if that email inbox screenshot looks familiar, let us know in the comments section.

iPhone case maker shows off 3G iPhone?s new look
iPhone case manufacturers are arguably some of the more reliable source for upcoming iPhone mock-ups. Why? Well, in order to get cases and accessories prototyped and pushed into different retail channels in time for a device-launch, certain manufactures are privy to precise and specific details on not-yet-launched devices' dimensions. The UI and other cosmetic details might not be accurate, but the 3G iPhone's dimensions help give us a pretty clear idea about the shape of Apple's next-generation iPhone.

So, I was pleasantly surprised to see that XSKN, a little known iPhone case maker, posted images today that seem to show the upcoming 3G iPhone in all its tapered-edge glory. The images were meant to show off the "EXO Mask iPhone 3G," but they also give next-gen iPhone hopefuls another glimpse of things to come from Cupertino.
Now, the fact that EXO's iPhone 3G mock-ups seem to agree with previous rumors that point towards more tapered edges, an additional sensor/camera near the earpiece, and a redesigned speaker grill does not mean that the 3G iPhone will in fact look anything like the picture - a grain of salt would be a good investment in this case.
We'll no doubt see more and more 3G iPhone mock-ups as we get closer to the next-generation iPhone's launch next month. Stay tuned…

Geneva Labs iPod System

Now this is one classy (and large) iPod dock system, courtesy of Geneva Lab. Features include a quartet of midrange 5.5" speakers and two tweeters located in the center cabinet, with a 12" subwoofer on the left. Constructed from MDF and hand painted with 11(!) coats of black or white lacquer, the iPod dock is located at the top left hand corner. This will definitely set tongues wagging whenever guests drop by your home, but that will only happen when you part with $3,500 for this fingerprint magnet.

Treo and iPhone Meet
Friday, May 16, 2008

RKS Design has come up with the Mimique design - I suppose this is what the bastard child of a Treo and iPhone would look like, although it must have mated with a really old Treo considering the large antenna is still retained. I think that is the only flaw with the product as it really takes away the over charm. Another problem would be the lack of connectivity - it seems that only a single USB port is available - what happens when I want to listen to my music or transfer data? Guess it is USB-charged then.

iDial iPhone Retro

So the iPhone's touch interface has helped propel it to the top of many people's wish lists, in addition to its stunning looks and overall hype despite the glaring lack of 3G connectivity, but what happens when you want to go back to the good old days of a rotary dial when making a call? That's the advantage of the iPhone's full touch screen display, with the iDial iPhone Retro application which allows you to dial phone numbers via a virtual rotary dial. Needless to say this is much slower than just punching some numbers, but at least it helps get your retro kicks in. You will be able to get the application here.

Orange gets iPhone distribution rights for about a dozen markets

Today, France Telecom-owned Orange released a short announcement:
Orange today announced a new agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to Orange customers in Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and Orange?s African markets later this year.
Again, we see that exclusive country deals are out — Switzerland, Egypt, Portugal and Austria will have two iPhone carriers. However, what we don't see is Spain on the list. Guess that's left for Telefonica's O2, Apple's UK partner, which we think is next in the queue.

iPod Lamps

iPods are everywhere - you cannot deny that fact. The iPod accessory market is also a profitable one, as evident by tons of speaker docks to suit every taste and fancy. The iPod Lamp you see here offers something a little bit different - not only does it provide adequate reading light at night, there is a tiny speaker located at the base so that you will be able to enjoy your favorite tunes while catching up on your reading. The iPod Lamp retails for $150 a pop and comes in white, pink, black and brown colors.

Radioraft Waterproof iPod Dock

The Radioraft is perfect for those who have a pool in their homes - after all, this waterproof iPod speaker dock comes with full 360-degree directional audio thanks to five built-in speakers, pumping out a grand total of 400 watts of power. Its battery provides up to 8 hours of non-stop partying, while 6 stainless steel cupholders lets you enjoy your favorite beverage with up to five other friends in the pool. Your iPod won't sleep with the fishes though since there is a watertight glove box to house it with waterproof controls on top. At $2,000 a pop, this is one expensive party toy. Couldn't they have thrown in a remote control at the very least? Guess your guests will be charged per entrance if you're going to recoup your investment.

iTunes transfers coming to BlackBerry - RIM working on BlackBerry Media Sync
With the increasing popularity of Apple's computers and other hardware, the company's media player and media library application iTunes has been gaining traction with consumers. So, to keep their BlackBerry customers on par with the music-playing handsets of today, RIM is working on bringing iTunes-based media transfers to BlackBerries around the world.
The BlackBerry 9000 Bold is being heralded as the first media-centric BlackBerry targeted at the consumer market. So, it makes sense that RIM would be working on a solution to allow users to load up their new BlackBerry Bold handsets with media - putting that slick new UI to good use. The BlackBerry Media Sync software is being developed to "transfer your desktop iTunes music files" to BlackBerry handsets - for those times when push email loses its luster and users feel the need to rock out to their tunes.
No word on release dates, but we're sure BlackBerry owners can't wait for RIM to launch BlackBerry Media Sync.

New Apple patent application renews speculation for location-based iPhone data networks
Remember that Apple patent application that hinted at the Cupertino-based fruit-company working with Starbucks? Right, well it's looking ever more likely that Apple will come through with a location-based solution allowing iPhone owners to interact with their surroundings.
The previous patent application surfaced in December. The USPTO documentation outlined a method by which iPhone users could order Starbucks menu items remotely from their iPhone and be notified when the order was ready to be picked up. I even posted some really cool mock-ups on what the whole iPhone-Starbucks system could look like.

Now there's a new patent application from Apple that hints at more location-based services in store for the iPhone. The newest documentation hints at bringing the iPhone-Starbucks idea into other niches - local events, movies, concerts, restaurant reviews. By using a short-range wireless network, like the AT&T WiFi HotSpots that we're starting to see in Starbucks and Barnes & Nobles locations, Apple wants to enable iPhone users to order from customized menus according to particular food preferences or allergies. The expanded system could even allow for remote purchasing of movie and concert tickets.
Furthermore, the location-based system could be used to push customized information to iPhone passing by particular business-fronts - flight schedules, maps, weather, and city information in an airport, for example. All an iPhone user would need to do is log into the wifi network with their iPhone in order to get all the local information pushed to the handset.
The idea is intriguing and could be used to great success in restaurants and airports. It would be great to order from menus and buy tickets from the iPhone, but what about other mobile platforms? Let's hope Apple's patent lawyers didn't entirely lock down the idea for the iPhone alone…

Intel Germany Chief reportedly confirms Intel Atom-powered iPhone with larger display, Intel categorically denies claims
Thursday, May 15, 2008
Like the game of "telephone" that we all played as a kid, executive statements can sometimes get jumbled and misconstrued on its way to the printing presses. It seems that may be what happened when Intel Germany CEO Hannes Schwaderer reportedly confirmed the existence of an Intel Atom-powered iPhone variant with a larger (720×480) display - an Apple iPhone mini-tablet, if you will.
The German Intel head was quoted as saying:
As part of an Intel event for the 40th birthday of the semiconductor company at Munich?s BMW World, Germany managing director Hannes Schwaderer confirmed today what has long been a rumor on the Internet: namely, that there is an iPhone with Intel?s new Atom chip. The device is slightly larger than the current version, Schwaderer said. That is not, however, because of the Intel chip, but because of the larger display used in the new iPhone.
But, Intel today has denied that such a statement was ever made, and has categorically denied the validity of the report.
"No Intel exec has said anything about any future Apple product, Atom processor or otherwise," an Intel spokesperson told AppleInsider. "I think that?s important to note as everyone speculates on future products from Apple."
Furthermore, editors from other news outlets seem to agree with Intel in that the Intel chief never made specific claims to a larger version of the iPhone powered by Intel's Atom chip. While a passing reference was made to the iPhone, it seems that the original quote was completely misconstrued.
Nevertheless, Apple has been rumored to have an Apple Newton-like tablet in the works. We're still waiting for Apple to release the larger iPhone tablet to the world - perhaps at WWDC?

AT&T limiting iPhone sales to one per person, credit card required
With iPhone stock dwindling to near-bare levels and completely unavailable in some places, AT&T has started to cut back on bulk iPhone purchases. AT&T has announced that customers can purchase a maximum of one iPhone per person - and all transactions will require a credit or debit card.
According to an internal AT&T memo, "Effective May 14, 2008, customers can only purchase one iPhone at AT&T stores. The prior limit of three iPhones is no longer in effect."

So, if you're in the market for a handful of iPhones, you will have to make do with buying them up one at a time and with a pre-paid debit card. But, with most of us waiting for the 3G iPhone to drop, we can't imagine many people are too miffed at the prospect of and iPhone buying-limit.

Atom-based iPhone A Possibility

Intel Germany CEO Hannes Schwaderer just confirmed that we will see an Intel Atom-powered iPhone in the future. Apparently, this new model will have a larger display, and could possibly do justice to rumors that mention a mini-tablet Apple that has a 720 x 480 resolution display. Schwaderer seems content on calling this new gizmo a larger iPhone, but perhaps he is trying to throw us off the mark here so that Apple will be able to unleash a mini-tablet device without us anticipating it. WWDC, perhaps?

iDial adds rotary phone dialing to your iPhone

Here's something for those that crave to go back in time, at least virtually. Thanks to the third-party native app called iDial, iPhone users can add an old-school rotary-type dialing to their beloved handsets. As you can see from the screenshots above, the application looks just the way you can imagine it, even displaying the number you just dialed at the center — so there's no confusion.
Naturally, you'll need a jailbroken iPhone. Add new source (http://rep.sosiphone.com) to Installer.app and take it from there.

Ubana uCan Wearable MP3 Player

The uCan MP3 player from Ubana is yet another waterproof device to hit the market, giving swimmers (synchronized or otherwise) an additional method to relax while they're busy cutting through the waves. It comes with 1GB of storage space in addition to 15 hours of playback time. You won't be able to take this diving with you though, as it has a maximum working range of just 10 feet beneath sea level - any more than that and I believe the pressure will just crush the waterproof protection, rendering it useless. Good thing it floats up should it happen to slip off while you're busy with your laps.

O2 hints at 3G iPhone launch date
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
The 3G version of the iPhone will be unveiled "in the coming weeks", the boss of Apple's exclusive mobile phone partner in the UK and Ireland hinted today.
Speculation is rife that Apple will reveal the 3G version of the phone at its Worldwide Developers' Conference in San Francisco, which starts on June 9.
Apple has not released any technical details for the next-generation iPhone, but it is widely expected to include 3G connectivity. This would let users download data such as high-quality video much faster, and could even support mobile TV.
Speaking after the announcement of O2's first-quarter results, the chairman and chief executive of Telefnica Europe Matthew Key said his company will be making an announcement with Apple in "the coming weeks".
Asked exactly when the 3G phone will be available he said: "That's more of a question for Apple ... but over the coming weeks we will do a joint announcement with Apple as Telefnica Group".
O2 has a "multi-year" exclusive deal to sell the iPhone in the UK and Ireland and will be the Californian group's partner for the new version of the phone. It has already sold out of the basic 8GB version of the current model.
Key refused to comment on how many iPhones it has sold, but it added 206,000 new contract customers over the first three months of the year - a significant number of which are understood to have bought an iPhone.
He also refuted suggestions that the deal O2 signed with Apple gives too much revenue back to the electronics firm. He pointed out that revenues in O2 UK grew almost 13% over the first quarter which "doesn't look like a bad deal to me".
Key was also asked about his interest in buying the UK operations of Tiscali, which has already sparked interest from rivals such as Vodafone.
He said the company had looked at it but "frankly the combination of the technology they are on, the quality of the customer base and the price they want (means) we are not interested."

Intelliscreen brings ?Today Screen? functionality to iPhone
The iPhone lacks many things that have come to be taken for granted by many mobile enthusiasts. A functional "Today Screen" that displays at-a-glance information is one of the features that Apple failed to include in their first handset offering. But, that doesn't mean the prolific iPhone developer community is going to sit idly by and accept Apple's oversight.
Enter Intelliscreen. With a bit of jailbreak-magic, Intelliscreen puts calendar info, email, SMS text messages, news and weather right on the iPhone's locked-screen - the "Slide To Unlock" screen, if you will. Intelliscreen displays the most recent data in categorized panes on your iPhone's locked-screen. Each pane allows you to scroll through your information conveniently on the iPhone's display, and gives you the option to launch the mail, SMS text message, calendar, etc. applications with a quick swipe through the information-pane.

m-Jays Earpiece for iPhone

Jays from Sweden has rolled out its m-Jays Music Adapter that was developed specifically for the Apple iPhone. This 3.5mm mini-plug works just right with the iPhone's recessed headphone port at one end, while virtually all standard headphones with a similar jack can be used on the other. Both are gold-plated to conduct sound better, but make sure your MP3 file is of a high quality bitrate or else that would be pretty much useless anyways. Features include a built-in microphone and a call answering button. Unfortunately, there is no wireless connectivity here so make sure you don't strangle yourself with the 35" long cord. Each $77 bundle consists of the j-Jays stereo headphones and an adapter.

Apple to launch iPhone in four Asian regions
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
SAN FRANCISCO / SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Apple Inc (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) has signed deals to bring the iPhone to four Asian countries later this year, which should help the company surpass its sales goal of 10 million units by the end of 2008.
Agreements with Singapore's Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (STEL.SI: Quote, Profile, Research) and three of its affiliates will bring the iPhone to Singapore, India, the Philippines and Australia, SingTel and Apple said.
Bharti Airtel Ltd (BRTI.BO: Quote, Profile, Research), India's top mobile operator, will carry the iPhone in the world's fastest-growing wireless market, which already has more than 260 million mobile users. SingTel owns more than 30 percent of Bharti Airtel.
SingTel unit Optus will offer the iPhone in Australia, and Globe Telecom (GLO.PS: Quote, Profile, Research) will be the Philippine partner. Globe Telecom is owned by SingTel and domestic conglomerate Ayala Corp (AC.PS: Quote, Profile, Research).
An Apple spokeswoman said the iPhone would make its debut in those countries "later this year," and declined to comment on plans to bring the iPhone to Japan and China.
In its quarter ended March 31, the company sold 1.7 million of the devices, which combine a mobile phone, iPod media player and Web surfing; Apple's goal is to sell 10 million iPhones by year's end.
A flurry of deals with European partners last week prompted American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu to raise his profit estimates for Apple on Monday, saying he expected 2008 iPhone sales of 11 million units, up from his previous forecast of 7 million units.
"IPhone is a relatively minor contributor today at only 2-3 percent of revenue, but we believe it has the potential to become a very significant driver over the next 2-5 years," Wu wrote.
Apple shares rose 2.6 percent to $188.22 by mid-afternoon on the Nasdaq. The stock has soared 50 percent over the past three months as investors regain confidence that Apple can sustain growth even amid a weakening economy.

iPhone rumor: 3G avail in silver, black, white, 32GB max?
A report claims Apple?s Swiss iPhone partner has set its usage tariffs - and perhaps also confirmed the new iPhone will be available in silver, black and white - but also said it is only reporting speculation.
Swisscom will be one of the first carriers of the 3G iPhone, the report claims. The source apparantly reveals the 16GB will cost 659 Swiss Francs, while a 32GB model will cost 799 Swiss Francs, according to a local Swiss report.
The 16 GB model ?will only be delivered in silver, while the 32 GB in silver, black and white type,? claims a rough Google Translation of the page.
Instead of offering a fixed rate tariff with bundled call times, the network will charge iPhone users 40 Swiss Francs per month, in addition, users will pat 45 centimes per hour of use when calling other Swisscom mobiles or fixed lines; while calls to other mobile networks will set the Swiss back 45 centimes per minute. SMS messages will cost 20 centimes each, while data transfers will cost 50 centimes per megabyte.
The report notes the device will be available for purchase at all 118 Swisscome shops, and Apple?s in-development own-brand retail stores in Zurich and Geneva. The next-gen iPhone will ship in June, the report claims.

Latest 3G iPhone rumor - next-generation iPhone to sport GPS, video conferencing, and mobile TV?
In a report from LeMatin.ch that has Apple bringing the iPhone to Switzerland through Swisscom this summer, there is speculation that the next-generation iPhone will not only be sporting that 3G (UMTS/HSDPA) data connection, but will also hit hard with GPS, video conferencing, and…wait for it…mobile TV!
Apple's pushing their iconic handset around the world and has been movin' and shakin' to make these deals happen. So, it's no surprise that Switzerland will be getting the iPhone. And, we've heard previous rumors pointing toward the iPhone rocking a true-blue GPS receiver and video-conferencing (courtesy of a front-facing camera). But, the news here is that the iPhone may support some sort of mobile TV standard.
Mobile TV may not be a deal-maker, nor will its absence be a deal-breaker, for most 3G iPhone hopefuls, but it's not a bad way to ice the cake. If the 3G iPhone launches without GPS, we'll all be a little disappointed, but if mobile TV doesn't make the cut, there won't be many tears shed.

Slim down your wallet with your iPhone - membership cards on your iPhone
The gym, the grocery store, the movie theater, the local SCCA chapter. The list of organizations requiring membership cards to verify a person's good standing goes on and on. But, that doesn't mean you need to pack you poor old wallet full of barcode-bearing membership cards.
Albert Alberts has come up with a novel way to rid his wallet of said membership cards with his iPhone. He scanned all cards, front and back, and uploaded them to a specially-created album within iPhoto. The result was an accurate depiction of the membership cards' barcodes on the iPhone's multi-touch display.
The barcodes on the iPhone's screen apparently scan perfectly! But, don't let lack of an iPhone stop you from putting your membership card on your handset. If your display is large enough, you'll most likely be able to scan and upload the pics to your mobile phone just the same.
I'll be scanning all my cards soon. It's going to be nice to not have to keep track of my gym membership card - I've already gone through five or so.

The iPhone arrived this summer in Switzerland

Swisscom has just been awarded the exclusive right to sell the iPhone 3G as early as this summer Suisse.
More than a few weeks to take ... If everything goes as planned, the Swiss could tasting of the iPhone while beautiful, brand new in stores Swisscom as early as this summer. Apple and a number of telephony in Switzerland are indeed entering into a collaboration agreement, according to a source of Swisscom.
And good surprise: it is the 3G version, the new version of phone multimedia brand the apple, which dbarquera in Switzerland. Dop by a more powerful chip, the toy fashionable offer more features such as video conferencing, mobile TV and GPS. It should be put on sale in June in the USA.
Obsolete the "old" iPhone
"The new version of the iPhone relguera to oblivion the first generation, sold more than 5.5 million copies," says a specialist who believes that the patience of Swisscom paid in this case. "After one year of service in the U.S. and just over seven months in Europe," old "iPhone has become obsolete." As a result, operators such as T-Mobile, Germany, the Swiss army knife bradent multimedia. Like AT & T, the USA, which sells half-price at $ 170 (179 Swiss francs).
But the secret of the transaction with the Californian company is well kept at Swisscom. "Nothing is done", merely to meet its spokesman Christian Neuhaus. Even silence on the part of Apple. "But the signs are not wrong," says an observer. The blue giant has just launched a mobile television service.
Another clue: Apple has signed an alliance with Vodafone English. The world's number one telephony will distribute the iPhone in a dozen countries and above all it will develop content services for the machine from Apple. Swisscom, which is a partner in the giant English since 2003, will benefit. And there is no doubt that the 40 000 owners of iPhone moonlighting in Switzerland will be seduced by these new offerings.
Who could indeed resist a football match live on its 3G?

Payless Car Rental goes iPhone, iPod Touch
The low-cost car rental company, Payless Car Rental, announced that it has launched an iPhone/iPod Touch optimized version of its website, allowing the mentioned two Apple product owners to conveniently rent a car from their beloved device(s), wherever they are.
Payless' iPhone interface (www.PaylessCarRental.com) enables users to book a car in just three easy steps. In addition, by clicking on the "Call to Book" button, users will be connected to Payless' call center, where they can book over the phone — even though, that's not the cool way to get around it.

iPhone Black but a Placeholder

Apparently AT&T has made a blunder with the iPhone Black on its model selector - this reference is but a temporary placeholder used over the weekend for a scheduled catalog update. It was supposed to distinguish between 4GB, 8GB and 16GB iPhones, but somehow gremlins on the server failed to do the proper reassignment and hence the flood of whispers across the Net that the 3G iPhone is all but inevitable so soon.

Apple iPhone Black
Monday, May 12, 2008

So what if RIM has released the BlackBerry Bold 9000 - Apple isn't going to give up its phenomenal success in the smartphone market just like that. A new iPhone Black has just appeared on AT&T's website when you select the type of phone you have, and this option is listed right after the standard iPhone. Dare you say it - this is the long awaited 3G iPhone?

AT&T website shows ?iPhone Black,? TIM CEO confirms 3G iPhone in June
Don't let the lack of iPhones in-channel confuse you into thinking that Apple is twiddling their thumbs in preparation for the highly-anticipated launch of the 3G-toting iPhone next month. Cupertino is apparently working to ensure that their next-generation iPhone launch goes off without a hitch - just like they did with the current iPhone's initial US launch. As such, AT&T is already showing an "iPhone Black" option through its online database of cellphones. The listing of a Black variant of the iPhone seems to agree with previous rumors that the 3G iPhone will hit the scene with a high-gloss (high-quality) Black plastic backing in favor of the current iPhone's Silver-colored aluminum backing. Of course, we won't be surprised if Apple turns around and launches the 3G iPhone with an aluminum-magnesium body - that would be such an Apple-like thing to do.

And, Telecom Italia Movil (TIM) CEO Luigi Licciardi said to Electronics Weekly that, "We will be selling an iPhone with 3G capability next month,"essentially guaranteeing that we'll be hearing Steve Jobs waving a next-generation iPhone around the keynote stage on June 9. And, the statements jibes well with AT&T's decision to block employee vacations from June 15 to July 12 - setting the stage for the 3G iPhone to launch sometime around (or on) the initial launch anniversary of the current iPhone.

iPhone Black
A menu option on AT&T’s website for “iPhone Black” has iPhone fanboy’s hearts beating pitter patter. The thought of a black iPhone is akin to how many of us feel when we see the sunlight. Meaning, excitement is palpable among fans of Apple’s revolutionary phone.

In reality, the story here seems to be more of a mistake on an AT&T website, more than an intentional leak.
Whether or not the “iPhone black” is really an option or not remains to be seen.

SingTel scores the iPhone deal for Singapore, India, Australia, and Philippines

Singapore Telecommunications, aka SingTel, announced that it scored the iPhone distribution deal for four countries - Singapore, India, Australia, and Philippines. The Southeast Asia's largest phone company said Apple's handset will be offered through SingTel Mobile in Singapore, and it's partly-owned subsidiaries in Australia (Optus), India (Bharti Group), and the Philippines (Globe Telecom). No dates were given, though.
Now it's seems official - Apple's exclusive country deals are out. In Italy, TIM and Vodafone are carrying the iPhone, while Vodafone will be competing with SingTel's subsidiaries in Australia and India.

Apple iPhones outta Stock

Apple's online store has listed its iPhones, both the 8GB and 16GB models to be out of stock and unavailable. I suppose many people are looking forward to the 3G iPhone which ought to be out pretty soon, as that is the only logical explanation for this strange and sudden unavailability of existing iPhone stock. What do you think - are iPhones really selling that well for both models to run out simultaneously, or is Apple just hyping up the anticipation for the 3G handset?

RemoteNote allows users to view and edit their iPhone notes from a web browser

If you don't own a Mac, but always wanted to be able to manage your iPhone Notes from a PC, you obviously couldn't do it. Both MegaPhone (former iPhoneDrive) and iPhoneNotes are Mac only apps. That has just changed…
Thanks to the new native app called RemoteNote - all users, no matter which OS they're running on their desktop computer, can view and edit notes on their iPhone. The application relies on the WiFi hotspot and allows you to remotely connect to your iPhone and change notes from a web browser. All web browsers are supported — including Safari, IE, Firefox and Opera — but it is required, though, that you have Adobe Flash Player installed. In addition, your iPhone needs to be jailbroken as well as Jiggy Runtime installed. Both RemoteNote and Jiggy Runtime are available from Installer.app.

Apple?s online store sold out of iPhones - No more online orders for iPhone
Saturday, May 10, 2008
The Apple iPhone is already sold out in the UK, following O2's iPhone price cut, and now the last reliable iPhone stock has run dry. Apple's own online store has stopped taking orders for iPhone 8Gb and iPhone 16GB handsets, indicating that Apple is gearing up to release their next-generation iPhone with 3G data connectivity.
Previously, the Apple online store showed delays of 5 to 7 days for all iPhone orders, but Apple has changed the status to "Currently Unavailable." The global shortfall of iPhone stock, paired with Apple's own shortage, indicates that the 3G iPhone is indeed due to launch soon.

June is the month to look out for, folks.

Schmap - Rotating city guides, local search, maps on your iPhone
Mashups are great, they combine the best of multiple applications and make for a more versatile and convenient user experience. The latest map-mashup to hit the iPhone brings together the convenience on local search, Google Maps, and City Guides. Enter Schmap.
Directing your iPhone Safari browser to www.schmap.com takes you to your Schmap homepage, where you can choose to browse through "City Guides" broken down by categories (restaurants, shopping, etc.) or search for local businesses in your area. Great, there are a lot of map-services on the web that do the same thing. Right?

Well, not exactly. Schmaps offers iPhone users a unique way to browse through their "City Guides." With the iPhone in portrait orientation, Schmaps presents a list of local businesses. But, turn the iPhone into the landscape (horizontal) orientation and Schmap will rotate the screen and list the businesses next to a map showing the location of each business. It really is trick.

Schmap's local search function is currently unavailable as the service is still in beta development. In fact, the service is closed to the public, but we've got the hook up. Point your iPhone to www.schmap.com and enter "724627" when prompted for an access code.

AT&T briefly announces free AT&T WiFi HotSpot service to Apple iPhone customers
Remember when AT&T launched their iPhone-specific AT&T HotSpot WiFi portal, only to remove the free service the next day? Right, well, it looks like the service has been officially rolled out (however briefly) for iPhone customers with legit, AT&T-locked iPhones - those with unlocked iPhones or non-iPhone plans on AT&T won't be getting the benefit of free access to AT&T WiFi HotSpots.
AT&T added a little tidbit to iPhone rate plan details, confirming that iPhone users can log into AT&T WiFi HotSpots for free:
To use iPhone, you'll need to sign up for a 2-year service agreement. Plans start at $59.99 and include Visual Voicemail, Unlimited Data (email and web), 200 SMS text messages and access to AT&T's more than 17,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, including Starbucks* all for use in the U.S.
*Wi-Fi available at U.S. company operated Starbucks locations equipped with a hotspot.
Unfortunately, the reference to AT&T WiFi HotSpot access was removed shortly afterwards, indicating that AT&T is still not ready to roll out the free WiFi HotSpot service to iPhone customers. We presume the delay in launching the service could be AT&T's ongoing conversion of Starbucks locations to AT&T WiFi HotSpot service.
There are apparently over 17,000 AT&T WiFi HotSpots across the US, and with AT&T rolling out their HotSpot service at all Starbucks and Barnes & Nobles locations, iPhone customers can look forward to speedy WiFi data connections around every corner. The service is a virtual lock for the near future, it's only a matter of time.

Nokia?s iPhone fighter gets codename - iPerformer?
We sure hope not. Nokia's known for pushing out myriad handset offerings ranging from the super-cheap, low-end to the ridiculously high-end, and belittling a certain competitor's sales figures. But they're not known for their intriguing codenames. Case in point, we're hearing the Nokia is internally referring to their S60 Touch OS-based iPhone-fighting handset as the "iPerformer."
Right, regardless of the lame codename, there's also talk of the iPerformer hitting market with a widescreen touchscreen (of course), QWERTY keypad, GPS, NaviScroll, FM radio/ transmitter, WiFi, Bluetooth, TV out, and a Web cam. It's not clear what the "web cam" dealio is all about. Nokia usually knows what they're doing in the camera department so we'll just go along for now.
Launch window and pricing are still unknown, but we'll take whatever details on Nokia's iPhone-fighting iPerformer we can get at this point.
Sidenote: It's unclear if the Nokia iPerformer is the internal codename for the Nokia 5800 Tube, or the iPhone-killing touchscreen handset that's due to launch shortly after the Nokia Tube.

Gear4 DUO iPod Speaker Dock

I must admit that most iPod speaker docks these days seem to be dry in terms of design - the Gear4 DUO takes a different route as the front speaker section can be unclipped from the main body of the DUO, functioning as a portable speaker setup thanks to the inclusion of a rechargeable battery. Of course, doing so would mean you lose the functionality of a 20W subwoofer which is housed within the main unit. There is no word from Gear4 on just how long the battery will last, but I don't think it will be that weak. The DUO will come in black and silver finishing, hitting Europe this Friday for €200 while folks in the UK will have to fork out £150. A US release is in the works sometime later this year, and rest assured it won't pass the $300 mark.

Austria first with 3g iphone?
Thursday, May 08, 2008
T-mobile confirms UMTS iPhone: Austria test market mobile radio operator expects with 3G-Version the break-through - Austria one of the first countries - new tariff model announced in the context of a press conference in Vienna confirmed t-mobile Austria that the UMTS version of the iPhones will be available already soon. More still, Austria own itself as it were than test field for Apples 3G-Auftritt, like for each UMTS telephone. Therefore Austria presumably as one of the first countries world-wide the new UMTS iPhone one get.
Further it was called it on the part of the marketing boss Hendrik Kasteel, "more flexible" offers will give. T-mobile did not want to call sales figures to the current IP hone model, which one drives out since March of the yearly exclusively for the domestic market. But one expects with the 3G-Variante the break-through.
Spreading According to t-mobile about 18,000 Apple-mobile phone in the nets of domestic mobile radio operators circulate since the introduction on the market. How many devices unlocked of it are, one did not want to betray. Straight one in Europe takes time the success of the iPhones still. As reports, the customers before the exclusive contracts straeuben themselves and wait for a 3G-Version of the Internet-mobile phone.
Production is to already start after current medium reports. From the surrounding field of the chip manufacturer Infineon was called it, production still in this quarter would start. Market watchers count on the presentation of the new model in the course of the Worldwide Developers Conference from 9 to 13 June in San Francisco and an introduction on the market in the autumn. Meanwhile one assumes also up to three new models will come for different target groups on the market (zw/sum)

NBC makes full episodes of 30 Rock and The Office available to iPhone users

Like any other media company NBC is worried about their content being stolen. And while we keep arguing DRM is not the answer, but a simple annoyance to the end users - they keep pushing their awkward "story." However, this time even with some restrictions they seem to be doing the right thing. The media company is offering full episodes of 30 Rock and The Office to all iPhone and iPod Touch users. Best of all there are no ads — it's 100% free — making us think what's behind the curtain. Free ad-supported content is cool in my book, but this is simply weird. In addition, there's no DRM involved even though restrictions are made — whenever you exit Safari, you'll need to download the episodes again. Forget EDGE, this is the WiFi thing only and even then you better have more than a decent connection or at least enough time to spare.
Finally, we're not sure what's NBC's strategy. On one hand they are against Apple and on the other they come up with this. Guess Apple product users are not the problem, after all.

iPhone no longer available in the UK; 3G version coming soon?

Ladies and gentlemen, he was a good buddy. Its large glossy screen made people around envy you (at least when you were in the hotspot area), and its media playing capabilities were second to none. However, he's not longer with British citizens…
iPhone, at least in its 2G version, is official dead in the UK. And even though we knew this is coming, O2 UK obviously wanted to make things clear, hence their iPhone page has a simple "iPhone no longer available" sentence. This in return prompts a question when will the 3G iPhone be released, and who will get the honor to carry it. Hopefully, we'll know sooner rather than later. June seems like a month to look forward to…

Apple iPhone headed to 16 Latin American countries on America Movil
Apple sure is making a global blitz with its iconic Apple iPhone handset. With carriers signed up left and right to launch the iPhone in various markets across the globe, America Movil has secured a deal to bring the iPhone to Latin America later this year.
America Movil isn't saying how much the iPhone will cost or if it will even be an exclusive on the carriers network, but we do know that the iPhone will soon be coming to America Movil's 16 country footprint.
With Vodafone set to offer the iPhone to 10 different countries and America Movil apparently preparing to bring the iPhone to 16 countries, much of the world will soon be given a chance to experience the iPhone for themselves.

New next gen iPhone info
All the text below was posted by Lord Templar III over at an Australian forum.
I would like to put all the rumours to rest- (this is straight from the horses mouth)
Apple resellers have called into Apple next week for a two day lock down.
The iphone will have the following attributes.
1) smaller than current model.
2) 110grams instead of 158 grams. Hard Plastic NOT Aluminium backing
3) 3G with plans and unlocked phones with Optus/Telstra and Vodaphone.
4) Telstra and Optus to release prior to June 30 Financial year end. Vodaphone to release in August 2008.
5) improved camera (maybe 3megapixels), all the normal features of the current iphone plus GPS and video calling.
6) 32 gig model will be largest ( maybe 40gig - not sure yet)
The iphone release will coincide with the opening of the Sydney Apple store and the introduction of movie rentals via itunes for the australian market.
Finally, dont ask me how I know this...
I have put my order in for 2 of the iphones and the the Apple TV Box.
I can't friggin wait !!!

Arkados software for iPhone

Arkados has released a reference design for making interactive software for the iPhone and iPod Touch, basically enabling you to control electronics in your house, such as turning on the fan in your living room even though you have not arrived home yet, and would come in especially handy if you want to cool down your home during those hot summer days. Unfortunately, Arkados has not reached that level of convenience just yet as they currently cater for just audio systems, letting you take control of your entire music library from room to room with the iPhone/iPod touch functioning as a remote control. Hopefully future iterations of the software will see a greater degree of functionality introduced.

Apple iPhone SDK Beta 5 now available

The Beta 5 version of the iPhone SDK is now out. Unlike the previous release, this one doesn't bring much new to the table. However, tweaks to the developers tools and some bug fixes should be more than enough for any iPhone/iPod Touch developer out there to update.
This fifth beta release of the iPhone SDK includes a complete set of tools, compilers, frameworks, and documentation for creating iPhone OS applications. These tools include the Xcode IDE, and the Instruments analysis tool, among many others. With this software you can develop applications that run on iPhone and iPod touch using the included iPhone Simulator.
The download link remains the same.

Vodafone to offer iPhone in ten markets: Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey

Following "the Canada announcement," Vodafone issued a press release saying it scored a deal with Apple to introduce iPhone to ten other countries:
Vodafone today announced it has signed an agreement with Apple to sell the iPhone in ten of its markets around the globe. Later this year, Vodafone customers in Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey will be able to purchase the iPhone for use on the Vodafone network.
No dates were given, only the words above. Guess that 3G iPhone for the Italian market will have to wait a little longer…

iPhone takes top spot as Flickr?s most prolific cameraphone
Say what? The iPhone's lowly camera with no flash or zoom has risen to the top of Flickr's cameraphone camera-stats?
Indeed it has. With Flickr and other online photo-hosting services giving mobile users the ability to directly upload photos from their cellphones, it seems the iPhone users have taken to posting their mobile pics with abandon. iPhone users need only add a special Flickr email to their contacts list, and uploading photos to Flickr is a simple matter of sending an iPhone photo to the special email - all it takes is a couple button presses. And, it seems that the lower quality (which isn't saying it's bad quality) camera and optics on the iPhone hasn't stopped users from making the iPhone the most prolific cameraphone on Flickr - even more so than the top-dog Nokia N95.
Flickr data, based on meta-data embedded within the photos, show that the iPhone recently surpassed all other cameras in its class after a steady climb to the top of the charts.
So, are you one of the iPhone Flickr users that helped take the iPhone to new heights? Sound off in our comments.

More 3G iPhone photos emerge?
Our Tuesday wouldn't be complete without any 3G iPhone rumors/pics to show our readers. As June closes in on us, new 3G iPhone pictures have emerged from Chinese forum WeiPhone.com.
The iPhone, clad in white, in these pictures shows the redesigned speakers/dock connector, the extra sensor near the earpiece, the more tapered design, and the glossy plastic casing that was rumored to be in store for the next-generation iPhone - so this could be a legitimate preview of the 3G iPhone. On the other hand, Apple is notorious for circulating fake handsets to throw people like us off their trail.

If this design turns out to be the real deal, the 3G iPhone looks like it'll be a mildly refreshed take on the current-generation iPhone. The lines are clean and glossy casing is attractive. Now, we just need some hands-on time with the 3G iPhone. The wait can't seem any longer at this point…

Chinese Handwriting on iPhone?

Word on the street has it that the iPhone could soon run some sort of handwriting recognition which works with Chinese characters. Apparently, this will happen as soon as Apple integrates Chinese (both Simplified and Traditional) input into the iPhone. Each time you write a character, you will be presented with a list of possible characters on the right side, pretty much like how current Chinese software works at this point in time on the computer. After all, Apple has already started hiring "Handwriting Recognition Engineers". One thing I can say is this - the Chinese speaking/writing market is just too huge for anyone to ignore.

Chinese handwriting recognition spotted in iPhone 2.0 OS beta
Monday, May 05, 2008
With more mobile subscribers than there are people living in the US, China's mobile market is a force to be reckoned with. So, it makes sense that Apple is still pursuing the Chinese market for their heralded iPhone.
The newest revelation gleaned from the iPhone 2.0 OS points toward some handwriting recognition support for its Chinese-speaking users. Both traditional and simplified Chinese input are supported with the new Chinese-language support. Selecting the Chinese language setting on the iPhone offers the user the option to use handwriting recognition input.
The handwriting recognition support seems to be implemented with an incredibly intuitive interface that Apple is so
experienced in creating. As the user starts to input Chinese character components (slashes and lines), probable matching-character suggestions appear to the right of the text-input box. With the ability to enter Chinese characters in both portrait and landscape orientation, the UI is incredibly flexible.
For all you Chinese-speaking iPhone hopefuls looking to ditch the English interface on the iPhone, there is likely a Chinese-language light at the end of the tunnel. We'll have to wait and see if this new handwriting recognition hits the official release of the iPhone OS 2.0, but it looks like we'll be seeing the new feature in a couple months.

Hit up wretch.cc for the rest of the screenshots of the Chinese-language UI in action.

Hahlo 3 goes public, takes mobile iPhone Twitter to new levels
The iPhone's slick multi-touch display is perfectly suited to the mobile Twitter addict's needs. Before the location-aware and natively installed, third-party Twitter application, Twinkle, booste iPhone Twittering to the next level, Hahlo took the cake as the best mobile Twitter web-app for the iPhone.
And, with the public release of the new Hahlo 3 mobile Twitter UI, Hahlo is poised to re-take the stage as the most
feature-rich and intuitive Twittering platform for the iPhone. The new Hahlo 3 sports a completely revamped UI and the ability to search through Tweets, thanks to integration with Summize's service. The new Hahlo 3 interface brings the power of the full Twitter interface to the iPhone - see who's following you, who you're following, you're favorites, updates, change settings (like in-line message viewing and avatar size), and even allows you to start following new followers.
Take a look at the screenshots of my dismally lacking Twitter account. Not only does the Hahlo 3 UI look good, it's chock full of features!
Access the new Hahlo 3 interface by pointing your iPhone's Safari browser to http://hahlo.com/.
A lot of the new features in Hahlo 3 won't make sense if you're not familiar with Twitter. May I suggest you sign up and start getting your Tweet on?

iPhone Waters Plants

Guess the iPhone really does more than what it is supposed to, with this unique robotic setup that involves a watering can that is able to take instructions from an iPhone. Whenever the Safari's screen state goes from horizontal to vertical, it will fire a status update to a webserver using Javascript that has been set to move the watering can either up or down. Now if only something can be done to fill up the watering can when it runs dry while you're a few hundred miles away from home as well.

24-carat Gold iPhone Black Beauty edition by Goldstriker

Goldstriker has done it again. Just two days ago we posted about their gorgeous Solar Star edition iPhone and now they're presenting us with yet another iPhone flavor. This time it's the Black Beauty edition, which like many other of their products relies on gold to deliver the luxurious details, such as front bezel and rear logo which have been struck with 24-carat gold. The rest of the phone is black, or that's actually "Jaguar midnight black metallic." Yap, this one's created to match Jaguar cars and Stuart Hughes, who customized the device for himself, made it so it goes well (perfect) with his Jag. He even said: "I quite liked the 1st black one we did to match the Bentley colour range but hell no, I can't afford a Bentley so this one will do me just right for now."
The iPhone Black Beauty starts selling today for 749.95 GBP (about $1500) on Goldstriker's website.

iPhone Video Recorder
Sunday, May 04, 2008

- Record both audio and video
- Record to compressed mpeg4 format
- Intelligent dynamic volume adjustment algorithm
- Up to 15 fps with high-quality video
- Playback, send out by email
iPhone Video Recorder is a powerful iPhone oriented video recorder produced by DreamCatcher. iPhone Video Recorder records audio and video to the compressed mpeg4 format, so the recording is space saving, an-hour-high-quality recording will be a file as small as 60MB. iPhone Video Recorder boasts a frame rate up to 15fps which guarantees better recording performance . With iPhone Video Recorder, recording is easy and enjoyable, you may play back the video, download it to a computer, or send it out by email as you wish.
Due to the great consumption demand on iPhone CPU for dynamic encoding, it is hard to maintain a high frame rate on the fly encoding. Therefore, we turn to a postponed encoding method. You may record now and encode the recording later. The video data is already on your iPhone's disc, and you may resume encoding when you are convenient. Besides, we offer a few more encoding methods for customers to choose from. On the fly encoding is also available and the sound is good yet the frame rate will be reduced considerably.
AT&T takes free iPhone WiFi offer off the table
Oops. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to spread the word on how to get free AT&T WiFi HotSpot access on your laptop. Just the other day I mentioned that AT&T is offering all iPhone users unlimited use of their AT&T WiFi HotSpots at Starbucks and Barnes & Nobles locations in the US - along with instructions on how to trick the hotspot into thinking your laptop is an iPhone. But, today we're hearing that AT&T has taken the offer off the table.
Reports indicate that iPhone users are no longer able to access the AT&T WiFi HotSpot for free through their iPhone. It's not clear if AT&T mistakenly launched the service before it was ready for prime-time (which is possible, given the lack of an official announcement from AT&T), or if the "user-agent spoofing" method to get free WiFi HotSpot access on your laptop caused AT&T to freak-out and pull the plug. The service was clearly intentional, so it's not like AT&T just messed up by allowing iPhone users to get free WiFi for a day.
Here's to hoping that AT&T irons out the bugs (if any) or closes the "user-agent spoofing" loophole and launches the free service soon.

Apple iPhone 60 GB?
Saturday, May 03, 2008
If this was real...then that would be quite amazing...3G iPhone with 60 GB storage...
Google for iPhone available in 33 new markets!

Apple's flagship handset is at the moment only available in few countries but that doesn't stop Google from offering the iPhone-optimized version of its services to 33 markets! Do they know something we don't? Like, which markets iPhone will hit in the future? Or that's just their idea to provide iPhone globetrottin' customers with "Google local experience" wherever they are. In addition, they realize there are quite a few unlocked iPhones out there and they want to server these customers as well. Plus, let's not forget all the iPod Touch users.
Anyway, the new "integrated Google experience for the iPhone and iPod Touch" is now available in 33 new markets and 16 new languages — from Argentina to New Zealand, from Swedish to Chinese.
To try out the new Google interface, just point your iPhone or iPod Touch web browser to www.google.com and you're ready to go!

Goldstriker iPhone Solar Star Edition looks awesome

Goldstriker strikes again and this time they bring us a different kind of iPhone. On a first glance, it looks like a Colorware's work, but when you look better at it — this is completely different beast. The so called iPhone Solar Star Edition is coated in Balloon White paint that is found on a, hmm, Lamborghini Gallardo, which makes the device looks kinda simple. However, the 24-carat gold is there to emphasize this isn't yet another "Average Joe's" iPhone. It costs 749.95 GBP (about $1500) and that money buys you the 16GB version running the unlocked firmware v1.1.4.
Again, it's not for everyone — myself included — but this is certainly one of the best looking iPhones in a "luxury sub-2K" category, if that category actually exists.

Is this the next iPhone?
Friday, May 02, 2008
These live pics of a mysterious new iPhone device was posted over at iphon.fr. This could be the next generation 3G enabled iPhone. I like how it looks.

Is this the next-gen iPhone?

iPhone stories keep dominating our rumors section and this week is no exception at all. What we have here is reportedly a next-gen iPhone which French iPhone blog iPhon.fr got from an anonymous and unverified source. The bare fact that it's an unverified source should be quite enough not to write about it; on the other hand it's Apple's baby we're talking about here.
The device pictured above looks pretty much the way we envisioned it and we're eagerly waiting for Cupertino boys to announce their next big thing. In the meantime, our curious readers can search for "3g iPhone" on IntoMobile and check all the stories we collected so far about the next-generation JesusPhone.

Digital Opera iPod Adapter

DigiFi of Korea has just released its wireless earphones with an iPod adapter, dubbed the Digital Opera. Contrary to popular belief, the Digital Opera will not operate via Bluetooth but instead uses Kleer's wireless technology instead which is actually "point to multi-point listen-in technology" that allows up to four people to listen to the same audio stream simultaneously. Of course, all of them will need Digital Opera earphones in order for this to happen. Each pair has enough battery life to last for up to 10 hours of non-stop playback time, and will retail for $98 a pop.

3G iPhone Leaked?

Now here's an interesting photo of the alleged next generation iPhone - and I am sure that there will be several camps on this. Those who support a Photoshop job, kindly take a step to the left while others who think this is a knockoff can always stick to the right. As for the undecided (or couldn't care less), just remain where you are. Which category do you think this falls under?

AT&T To Get Garmin NuviPhone?

I love leaks, as they tend to whip up the Internet community into a frenzy. Should the following contents of a leaked consumer survey from Garmin be accurate, it looks as though AT&T will be carrying the Garmin NuviPhone in the near future. One of the main questions from Garming was this - would potential customers make AT&T their carrier of choice if they offered the NuviPhone for a 2-year subsidized price of $499, along with a $20/month data add-on that includes unlimited browsing and GPS navigation? I don't know about you - $499 is rather high and it doesn't even have the hype of the iPhone's release last summer, but the $20/month data add on is extremely tempting.
