If you encounter a scrolling box or list when surfing Safari on your iPhone-say you're responding to a post at the Macworld.com forums -and try to scroll using your finger, you'll find that the entire page scrolls, instead of just the box. The trick is to zoom in and scroll such areas with two fingers. Basically what is happening is when you are on a full-page your iPhone doesn't know what you are trying to do. Understanding iPhone Gestures

You can interact with the iPhone by touching the screen. Touching the screen in unique ways, called gestures, determine which actions the iPhone will take.

Learning the basic gestures

The basic gestures you should be aware of include the following:

Tap: To start an application, simply tap the touchscreen with your finger on the relevant application icon; for example the Safari icon on the Home screen.

Double-Tap: A quick double-tap of your finger has a special effect in different types of applications. For example in Safari, performing a double-tab (a single tap works too) over a username/password field on a particular web page will zoom-in on that portion of the page plus display the on-screen keyboard to assist you in filling in the form fields. A double-tap on a video or YouTube video enlarges the video while a second double-tap will restore or zoom-out the video to its original view.

Drag: While reading an email or viewing the content of a webpage, you can slowly drag your finger across the screen either horizontally or vertically to scroll the text on-screen in your chosen direction.

Flick: A flick is similar to a drag except you move your finger faster and lift your finger off the screen right after. The end result will be a scroll in the chosen direction only a lot faster.

Delete: Here is a quick an easy way to delete items such as a video, song or email, use a flick (see above) except in a horizontal direction over the particular name of the item. This will reveal a red Delete button enabling you to remove the selected item. If you tap on the Delete button you will be given an opportunity to confirm. If you change your mind, either tap the cancel button (when asked to confirm), or tap anywhere other than on the red Delete button to cancel.

Pinch: You use a pinch action to zoom in and out of a particular area of the screen. To perform a Pinch, place two fingers on the screen and spread them apart (to zoom in) or squeeze your fingers togeather (to zoom out). You may find that this is similar to a double-tap only the difference is that a Pinch gives you greater control. Okay, so. Today, i'm going to review the applications that iPhone has with you guys. Aight!?

The first thing i'd like to talk about briefly is the GPS System. The new iPhone now offers it ... good luck getting lost.

Honestly, what do you think? Can this state of the art cell phone replace a complete navigation system? That'd be way cool. WAY COOL! Here's what I notice about it.

1.) The GPS navigation is running off Google Maps. That isn't at all a bad thing, because I happen to like Google Maps. If you're wanting to update the maps, you'll need either WiFi or Data Service.

2.) The GPS happens to work without a network connection. ANNNNNNND! It caches your information. (What does cache mean Adam?) - Good question. Basically, Cache means that the information you're viewing is being duplicatedand stored elsewhere. Therefore, the data is retrievable. For example, I'm in Chicago, I bring up a map. I look at stuff. I close the map, re-open ... BAM! All the stuff I looked previously is still there if I need it. It really saves time and headaches in certain situations.

3.) Take out your navigation system and have it lock on your location. How long does it take? Answer? To long ... The Apple iPhone takes what seems to be a few seconds. Re-read what I just said. It only takes a few seconds...
w00t!

4.) Okay, it can't be 100% perfect, so i'll go on and get the bad point out of the way. It does not automatically re-route you if you miss your exit. So ... it just assumes we're all paying attention all the time.

5.) This GPS system shows your traffic information. Yes, I really just said that. It shows traffic information. Okay ... it only shows what's going on with the highways and it isn't real time. But still ... That flippin' rox my sox.

Okay, That's all i'm rambling about with that. Does it talk to you? Nah. But what good is that? Remember that statefarm commercial where the guy is driving his car enjoying and clearning enjoying his day. The navigation says, "turn left, then you have reached your destination" ... where did he end up? Inside a coffee shop. His car, in a coffee shop. Hahaha! That's funny stuff.

Bottom line. This is an impressive GPS system but I wouldn't opt my in car GPS out for it. The maps are up to date which is hardcore, but if caching mode is off, then you do need a network connection. So, leave it on.

Of course, the original iPhone did offer some neat features ... I suppose. Okay okay, I'm back on topic. Let's chat about the new and improved iPhone for a bit.

Question, Should we call this thing a smartphone or a computer? I am officially impressed with Apple. Congratulations guys! What won me over? Let's begin...

1.) 3G Internet Connection! first and foremost, I am a Web Designer, so I having an internet that is fast around at all times is incredibly helpful. This thing has gone from a dead cat to roadrunner. It's crazy fast!

2.) This smartphone is the EASIEST phone i've ever dealt with when hooking up to an Exchange Server. Before now, the original iPhone wasn't interested in having anything to do with Microsoft, but now! oh yes! If you're a lawyer, go, right now and buy one of these gadgets. You're IT guy will thank you. I promise!

3.) The new iPhone is nothing short of sexy. The original was attractive, of course, but new iPhone brings a somewhat thinner, bigger screen, and a black or white back that I could stare at all day long. It screams professional.

4.) You can download music onto your iPhone ... Are you kidding me!? You'll need to get rid of the EDGE and go to WiFi to experience it. w00t!

5.) MP3 Player. What's stunning about an MP3? All phones have them now ah' days. Yeah yeah, but does your music player have an amazing interface with the unique integration of multitouch? nope! ... get an iPhone.

6.) 8GB or 16GB? Apple ... lol, really guys? That's just flat out amazing. I know computers that are still around that don't have 16GB in them. *applause* My heart tingles right now.

I'm stopping at 6 reasons. How come? Because those are the top reasons why I have changed my thought towards the Apple iPhone. I can say this, it might as well be called a computer phone. There is no such thing as inconvienence when you own an iPhone in my opinion. Google Maps, YouTube ... name it, this piece of work has it. Yeah, the old one did also, but seriously ... the 3G makes it all seem like heaven. I've listed a few reasons, if you aren't pumped about this PDA/Smartphone/Computer/Car/Gadget/Home ... okay, so i'm exaggerating a little bit. Be excited about this phone, it's by the far, the best i've seen. And it's extremely cheap for everything that if offers in my opinion.
I give it a 7 million and 5 out of 10.

If you live in Asia, parts of Latin America, or other international countries, you'd generally be given a phone set to 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHZ.

Also, the C model is upgraded with voice recording, an e-book reader, and a stylus. It's very interesting to watch these iPhone clones evolve. The speed at which these overseas are able to roll out new models continues to amaze me, but I think the manufacturers are still (and will always be) focused on providing features that Apple and other American manufacturers currently do not.

Price wise, the CECT P168C is almost always under $150, sometimes closer to the $100 range, depending on where you look. I don't think that is bad at all considering the price of the original iClone is sometimes still similar to this.

In all actuality, the Samsung F480 Tocco and the Apple iPhone 3g are different enough for each to stand alone. Each has their fan base and they are not likely to meet. One great feature of the new iPhone 3G is GPS. It didn't take me too long to figure it out. The feature is used through the Maps application. You simply identify where you are going by typing in the address, then select, "Get Directions" which it will map out the shortest distance. When you are ready to go, select "Start" and the 3G network will locate you on the map using a pulsing blue dot. As you move, so will the dot. It's definitely pretty cool.

I did notice a couple fixes that would make it better. One would be a voice command to prompt the user to turn or when a turn is coming. Another would be to have the map rotate to that you are always traveling up on the screen. Currently, you have to turn your iPhone after you make a directional change if you want to be moving in the same direction as the blue dot.

The commercial for the Instinct says that it has voice command GPS. At this point I would say that is its biggest competitive advantage over the iPhone 3G. It wouldn't take much for the Instinct's GPS to be more responsive than the iPhone's. I noticed that sometimes I would be passing streets that the iPhone GPS displayed I hadn't yet. I would say the feature is definitely useful, however, if I were planning a long road trip I definitely wouldn't trust it to get me there without a few mistakes along the way.
