Sony HT-CT100 Home Theater Sound System - 269 USD

One of the problems with Home-theater Surround Sound is finding the space to place 6 speakers in a room. It can be a challenge. With 50 Watts to each channel + 100 Watts directly to subwoofer, the system delivers 250 watts total. iPhone Complaints - I've Brought an Ache With a Price!

Thursday, January 22, 2009

You have referred to the technology reviews, analyzed the iPhone alternatives threadbare, paid a king's ransom and bought the state of the art iPhone 3G. Happy with your jewellery? Not so. According to a site there are more than 1900 suggestions to improve iPhone 3G and still counting! So let us take the bigger problems first.

The biggest problems start with the battery. Strangely enough the 3G battery has less life than most run of the mill phones. Secondly, there is an acute problem with the reception standards in quite a few places. Both these are big irritants for users. Refer to iPhone alternatives for greater choice. A customer has even gone on record to say that it is a piece of you know what!! Horrendous was the word used for the customer service!! Makes you really want to look up iPhone alternatives.

The second level of problems lists far so many of them that it will take light years to finish listing them!! The phone while in the sleep mode does not ring. It is very difficult to select text even with a proper application. If you use the backspace key you will be deleting notes a single letter each time. There is no battery that you can remove and replace. You have to dispatch the phone to the manufacturer. If you want to make a call and you check up the list of contacts, you are going to slow your phone down immensely.

Refer to technology reviews and check out the iPhone alternatives. The 3G, believe it, does not support MMS!! There is possibly no phone since 2002 which can claim this shortcoming!! There is a big problem with its camera. Customers have reported that the button for the shutter is far too small and most difficult to find. A suggestion by way of a complaint suggested putting a 5 mega pixel camera with preferably a xenon flash. A suggestion also asked for the facility to forward SMS.

So if you want a phone that really works has reliability and reception with proper customer service, look up iPhone alternatives and technology reviews first.

Why Should I Buy a iPod Touch?

The iPod Touch is the best selling iPod - but why is that? What makes it superior to other iPods? Why not choose a Nano or Classic? What truly sets the iPod Touch apart from other iPods is it's revolutionary new features such as a touch screen - WiFi capabilities and internet browser, built in music and application store, and much more.

The first and most obvious difference between a iPod Touch and other ipods is it's revolutionary touch screen. No more click wheels, everything is done with the touch of your finger, or the flick of your hand.

The iPod Touch is also the first iPod to feature internet capabilities - which is used by its Wifi. Why you won't be able to get internet anywhere like the iPhone - you will be able to use the internet at Wifi hotspots or in your house - if you have a wireless network. You surf the internet using a program called Safari - a miniature version of the Safari web browser on Mac OS X. It is considered one of the best handheld web browsers with its revolutionary controls and zooming.

If you have access to Wifi you can also make use of the iPod Touch's built in music store - which is basically a handheld version of the iTunes store. Just download a song and its put on your iPod Touch, and when you plug your iPod Touch into your computer the purchased songs will be added to your computer's iTunes library too. Along with the music store is an application store where you can find a multitude of applications that can you can download to your iPod Touch - such as games, utilities and other software.

The Story Behind MP3 Players

A digital audio player, famously known as MP3 player, is an electronic device that stores, manages and plays audio files. It is considered that MP3 players are the successors to CD and MiniDisc players. MP3 players are usually grouped by storage media such as flash-based players, hard drive-based players or digital Jukeboxes, and MP3 CD players. So how did it all start for MP3 players?

In 1997 the first mass production of MP3 players took place through the initiative of SaeHan Information Systems. It was domestically marketed as “MPMan” player. During the summer of 1998, Eiger Labs got the license from the South Korean company and offered it to the North American market. They labeled it as “Eiger Labs MPMan F10”. After a few months, Diamond Multimedia launched “Rio PMP300”. It was a huge success throughout the holiday season. As a result, there were an increased interest and investments in digital music. At the same time, the said unit received various lawsuits thus mistakenly believed to be as the first MP3 player.

The succeeding year, Compaq introduced the first hard drive based MP3 player through a 2.5” laptop drive. It claimed that it can hold a maximum of 1200 songs. In October 2001, Apple Inc. launched the first generation of its iPod family, a 5-GB hard drive based MP3 player using a 1.8” Toshiba drive. The next year, it unveiled its second generation iPod. The iPod series experienced tremendous success all over the world and thus hold the top spot in the MP3 players market.

The Apple IPhone - Does it Deliver?

Over the years we’ve gotten used to Apple delivering us quality products, and our attitudes there haven’t changed. When it comes to the Apple iPhone, we expect quality, innovation and continuous pleasant surprises. In fact, when it comes to any Apple product, we expect these things. Is the iPhone keeping up with or exceeding our expectations? Mostly. Even the great Apple Corporation, which has stood steadfastly by its commitment to quality and innovation despite the constant influx of cheaper competitive products, is not infallible. Nor should we expect it to be. The breakneck speed and unstoppable momentum at which technology progresses almost guarantees that no new electronic toy can ever completely satisfy us. We’ve been trained to always look for more and better. This being said, the new Apple iPhone 3G still easily moves to the front of the pack.

Most cell phones aren’t just phones anymore; that’s no surprise to anyone. We do, however, still expect them to give us good quality cell phone service. The Apple iPhone 3G gives you easy contact storage, and calling or text messaging anyone on your contact list is as easy as tapping their name. Nor do you have to sit through five voicemails to hear the one you want. When you get voicemail, the names and dates are on screen, and you simply tap the one you want to listen to. Most people are surprised to find, though, that there are limitations to the ringtones that can be used with the Apple iPhone 3G. We’re used to customizing our ringtones however we want, and this is restricted with the iPhone. To most of us, that’s downright shocking!

You do, of course get the iPod with your iPhone 3G, and there’s no doubt that the iPod remains the most popular MP3/video player today. It delivers music and video with the clarity we’ve come to expect. There are constant improvements, such as touch-screen controls and wider screens, and no doubt the improvements will keep on coming. Apple delivers consistently in this area. The wireless Internet service available on the iPhone 3G is delightful, and with the larger screen it really is a pleasure to browse the net. You get almost all of the features you would get with a regular laptop computer.

The camera on the Apple iPhone 3G can stand proudly with some of the best mid-range digital cameras on the market today. Sending your photos off to your home computer, or anyone else’s computer, is a breeze. Though this is something we now all expect from almost any cell phone, with the iPhone we really are pleasantly surprised by the consistent quality of the photos. Last but not least, there’s the GPS system that comes with the iPhone. We haven’t quite gotten used to having those on our all-inclusive cell phones yet, but that won’t take long.

Apple Face Legal Trouble Over the 3G iPhone

Thursday, January 15, 2009

In a 23 page complaint that seeks class action status, Long Island resident Avi Koschitzki has complained about the abysmal reception on the new 3G iPhone, joining numerous amounts of other customer complaints over Apple's use of AT&T third generation wireless network. However this was not the only issue that was bought up in regards to the new phone. Many people have filed complaints in reference to hair line cracks appearing on the outer case of the iPhone.

It is reported that many people feel very disgruntled with speed of the wireless internet on the iPhone. It is said that the 3G iPhones do not perform due to the insufficient 3G bandwidths and AT&T infrastructure. In late July many people had signed up to forums and were posting blogs in relation to these various problems yet Koschitzki has claimed that the multi-million dollar company have ignored their hardship.

The cracks seem to appear around the camera lens, on the back where the apple logo sits and by the volume slide bar. People have complained even further when dirt gets in to the crack which then makes the phone even more unsightly.

Many have said that the slow internet on the iPhone is simply down to AT&T as their reception towers and net infrastructure are simply to weak to handle the iPhone's demands. The overwhelming demand on the AT&T reception towers has obviously caused a mass slow down which is very frustrating for consumers who have either purchased the phone for over £400 or have signed up to contracts worth over £40 a month.

Classic iPod Difficult to Repair

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Most iPods can be repaired quite easily by just opening up the back halves of the device. An exception to this Golden Rule of iPod repair appears to be Apple’s iPod classic, released in 2007. This unhappy circumstance is viewed as a design flaw by not only many consumers, but also by a multitude of third party repair companies prevented from addressing the needs of increasingly desperate iPod owners, forced, sometimes kicking and screaming, back to proverbial home Apple.

To exacerbate the situation still further, the electronics in this particular iPod are very delicate, and can be easily mangled by the inexperienced. Even if one is experienced, and technically-inclined, the iPod classic’s outer shell and back panel is extremely easy to damage while trying to open the case.

From a design perspective, the classic’s metallic silver back half was deliberately redesigned by Apple to prevent it from being removed. With earlier iPod models, a third party repair technician could separate the halves using a do-it-yourself iPod battery replacement kit, or perhaps a metal screwdriver.

Apple has been corporately diabolical with the classic, adding a series of tiny metal teeth. Surrounding all four sides of the iPod’s interior like snake fangs, once the two halves of the player are pressed together during assembly, the clips engage, and the unit is sealed up like a computerized tomb. But still these little machines, not unlike the Titanic, can meet with disasters abhorred by owners. LCDs can still crack, hard drives can yet fail, batteries can inexplicably cease holding their precious charges; it’s also inexplicable but perhaps inevitable that many of these tiny tragedies tend to occur shortly after the manufacturer’s warranty expires.

While battery installation shops and third party repair companies continue to attempt to address such issues, it may become necessary to forcibly open these close-once-and-never-open-again cases, especially if the customer’s warranty has expired and relief from the home Apple (or other manufacturer’s iPods if this becomes the rule) is not forthcoming. Destroying the stubborn iPod’s back half and replacing it with a cosmetic substitute may have to suffice if repair proves otherwise elusive.

MP3 Players For Dummies A Simple Buyers Guide For The Not So Technologically Savvy

In a world filled with MP3 Players, Portable Media Players and music downloads, there are a few of us who are still somewhat confused about how to buy a MP 3 player. With so much information out there it’s hard to get past all of the fancy, high tech jargon to make a decision on which one is best for your needs and by the end of your search, you’re even more confused than before you started. Well here’s a “straight to the point, quick and dirty” lesson on how to buy an MP3 player.

MP3 PLAYER VS PORTABLE MEDIA PLAYER
A MP3 Player is a portable digital device that plays and stores music and audio books. A Portable Media Player (PMP) plays and stores audio and video. The name MP3 Player is used as a generic term to describe all portable devices. Although PMPs can play audio not all MP3 Players can play video. For example, the iPod Shuffle, Creative Labs Zen Stone and SanDisk Sansa Clip are MP3 Players and do not have the capability to play video.

BRANDS
For those of you who were not aware, Apple Ipod is not the only brand of MP3 Players on the market. There are several other brands of MP3 Players for you to choose depending on your needs and most importantly, your budget. They are the Archos, Coby, Cowon, Creative Labs, iRiver, Philips, Samsung, SanDisk, Sony, Toshiba and Zune (Microsoft).

TYPE
MP3 Players are classified according to how they store digital data. The most common are HARD DRIVE BASED PLAYERS and FLASH MEMORY BASED PLAYERS. The Hard Drive Based MP3 Players have the highest capacity and are larger and heavier than the Flash Memory Based MP3 Players. An example of a HARD DRIVE BASED PLAYER would be the iPod Classic 80 GB, iPod Classic 120 GB, iPod Classic 160 GB, Zune 120 GB, the Archos 80 GB 605 Wi-Fi PMP, Archos 160 GB 605 Wi-Fi PMP and the Creative Labs Zen Vision:M 30 GB MP3 and Video Player. A drawback to the HARD DRIVE BASED PLAYERS is that it has moving parts that can easily malfunction if it is exposed to high temperatures or dropped.

The Flash Memory Based MP3 Players are light weight and smaller than the Hard Drive Based MP3 Players. This type of MP3 Player has no moving parts and will have longer audio playback with a storage capacity ranging from 120 to 8000 songs. An example of Flash Memory Based MP3 Players is the Apple iPod Touch, Apple iPod Nano or Creative Labs Zen PMP. A drawback of the Flash Memory Based MP3 Player is that it is more expensive than the Hard Drive Based Players even if the storage capacity is less.

CHOOSING A MP3 PLAYER OR PMP
Now that you’re armed with the basic information you have to determine which type is best for you. Your personal needs and budget will help you to narrow down your choice.

Decide the type. – Hard Drive vs Flash Memory. When deciding the type keep in mind what you’re using it for. For example, if you’re going to use it while jogging, then the hard drive based player will not be a good choice because of the size, weight and high chance it will malfunction if it’s dropped.

Decide the storage capacity. – When deciding the storage capacity also keep
in mind whether you also want to play video and audio (PMP) or just audio (MP3 Player). MP3 Players can come in various storage capacities which can vary by brand. The iRiver brands features a 20 GB MP3 Player. The Archos has a PMP that has 60 GB capacity. Whether you’re looking for 1 GB to 160 GB there is a brand and model to suit your needs.

Decide the features. – Determining features is based on personal preference. Some MP3 Players/PMP have several features that may include voice recorders, calendar syncing, FM radio, wireless capability, photo storage or recording TV like a DVR player. For these particular features you may want to consider the Archos brand of PMPs. Another popular feature is color. If you’re into pink then you can get a pink mp3 player. Your options are endless it just depends on your personal needs and how much you’re willing to spend.

Decide how much you’re willing to spend. - The more features you desire the more you’ll spend on a MP3 Player. If you’re just looking to play music and you’re not concerned about the fancy features then you can find a MP3 player for under $50. For example, the SanDisk Sansa m250 2GB can be purchased for less that $35. If you’re looking for at least 4GB then iPod Nano or Creative Labs Zen Mosaic would be a good choice. Or, if price isn’t a concern and you want the “Cadillac” MP3 Player with all the bells and whistles then consider the Archos 705 Wi-Fi PMP 160 GB.

After considering the type, capacity, features and your budget check out each of the above mentioned brands to compare features and price. Also, if you’re on a tight budget and still want fun features consider a refurbished MP3 Player. Now you’re informed and ready to buy and enjoy your new MP3 Player! Good Luck!

The Apple iPhone - Does it Deliver?

Sunday, January 11, 2009

Over the years we've gotten used to Apple delivering us quality products, and our attitudes there haven't changed. We've been trained to always look for more and better. This being said, the new Apple iPhone 3G still easily moves to the front of the pack.

Most cell phones aren't just phones anymore; that's no surprise to anyone. We're used to customizing our ringtones however we want, and this is restricted with the iPhone. To most of us, that's downright shocking!

You do, of course get the iPod with your iPhone 3G, and there's no doubt that the iPod remains the most popular MP3/video player today. It delivers music and video with the clarity we've come to expect.

Sending your photos off to your home computer, or anyone else's computer, is a breeze. Though this is something we now all expect from almost any cell phone, with the iPhone we really are pleasantly surprised by the consistent quality of the photos. Last but not least, there's the GPS system that comes with the iPhone. We haven't quite gotten used to having those on our all-inclusive cell phones yet, but that won't take long.

Scott Allen Barker is the founder of http://appleiphoneresources.com which is a one-stop center for finding out everything you need to know about the Apple iPhone, including the constant additions and improvements that are an inevitable part of Apple's commitment to quality. Kindle Vs iPhone - Can an Apple a Day Keep the Kindle Away?

The Amazon Kindle is not only the hottest ebook reader on the market today but next to the iPhone its one of the most popular electronic gadgets. At the time of this writing it has been out of stock for weeks and those that have placed orders for the Kindle will be waiting for several more weeks to get it!

While the Kindle is certainly the market leader for the ebook reader market, Apple is fast on its heels with the iPhone. From listening to music or watching your favorite movies to playing games, you can do it with the iPhone so why not read books on the device as well? That's what Apple seems to think anyway and as a result is quickly trying to give the Kindle a run for its money as an ebook reader.

Recently, it was announced that several major publishers have signed deals with ScrollMotion, a New York mobile application developer. ScrollMotion is a new app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that will allow consumers to buy and read electronic versions of newly released and best-selling books. This latest iPhone app puts Apple directly in the ebook business in a big way.

Despite Apple's ambitions, there are two main differences that should favor the Kindle (at least for now) as strictly an ebook reader. The first obvious difference is the size of the display. Try reading a chapter of your favorite book on a 3.5 inch display, the size of the display on the iPhone, and you'll likely go crazy. Contrast that to the Kindle's six inch diagonal display and there's no comparison in reading comfort.

The other main difference between these devices is the technology that is used in the displays themselves. The Kindle uses e-Ink technology to display text while the iPhone works much like a computer monitor where light is emitted to display text. The difference in these technologies is dramatic. When you read text on the Kindle, it looks just like text on paper and there is virtually no eye strain, even after long reading sessions. With the iPhone, reading text is much like reading from your computer monitor (on a much smaller scale) and will almost certainly strain your eyes.

When you compare these devices side-by-side as strictly ebook readers, the larger display and display technology easily favors the Amazon Kindle. There are two things in Apple's favor, however, that could trump the Kindle's success. The first being iPhone's availability and price, and the second being the convenience of being able to do everything with one small device. The iPhone is readily available and is cheaper than the Kindle. As for screen size and potential eye strain, consumers may be willing to make these sacrifices if it means they can use one device for everything.

The ideal gadget would have the features of the iPhone and the Kindle, but that's never going to happen anytime soon. I believe in the end dedicated ebook readers like the Kindle will always have a leg up on smaller communication and entertainment devices like the iPhone. That doesn't mean Apple is out of the game. Who knows, could the Apple "iReader" be right around the corner?

When comparing the Kindle vs. iPhone as an ebook reader, it's important that you determine exactly what your needs are in a reading device. It's also important you know what the Kindle can and cannot do before you buy. For that, read the full Amazon Kindle review here.
